Matthew 10: 26–33 for LFM
Summary:

The issue of climate change and the impact of severe weather have become a political hot button and a topic that can quickly boil over into fierce arguments, fueling our feelings of impotence and apathy. But we don’t have to be trapped in “us-versus-them” binaries. Jesus offers an alternative throughout the gospel: Love each other.

No Matter What Happens ...  Click here Click title to view sermon Matthew 10: 26–33
Summary: God knows when the sparrow falls. The sparrow still falls, but that is neither the end of the story nor the whole story, for as many sufferers have discovered, in fellowship with Christ, who also suffered, the complexion of what is happening changes in ways that make possible comfort, hope and even joy.

Welcoming Jesus  Click here Click title to view sermon Matthew 10: 40–42
Matthew 10: 37–42 for LFM
Summary:

If you have ever been surprised by the sudden appearance of in-laws at the door of your home, you know that hospitality can be a burden. If we never had to serve another turkey dinner or grill steaks on the barbie for guests, it would not bother us in the least. Yet, at some point, we cannot get away from the fact that Jesus encourages us to be welcoming. Fine. Does that mean anything more than simply being polite?

Welcoming a Prophet  Click here Click title to view sermon Matthew 10: 40–42
Matthew 10: 37–42 for LFM
Summary: Jesus calls on us to give support, at least a cup of cold water, to those who come in his name, yet throughout history those who bring the Word of God have often experienced hostility and rejection. God’s messengers may challenge us in ways that make us feel uncomfortable. Perhaps that is one way we know that God is in our midst, pushing us out of our comfort zones and asking us to consider the true meaning of the good news of Jesus Christ.

Welcoming Christ in Others  Click here Click title to view sermon Matthew 10: 40–42
Summary: Jesus’ message of love was manifest through a welcoming attitude toward all. Christ’s attitude of inclusivity is one we must model. Too often, we are content to live as we have always lived. We will not bid welcome to new people, ideas or possibilities. Our lack of welcome prevents us from growing. Jesus challenges us to welcome others and to experience through our attitude and actions the reward of eternal life.

Unexpected Welcome  Click here Click title to view sermon Matthew 10: 40–42
Summary: This passage is about “welcoming” and “being welcome.” Its overall message is that we need not worry about whether or not we are being appropriately “welcoming.” There already is a welcome out there waiting for us; we have to go out in the name of Christ and enter into that welcome, claim it and become a part of it.
